jake’s fund
IN MEMORY OF A 3 YEAR-OLD YELLOW LAB WHO PASSED AWAY DURING TREATMENT FOR ADVANCED HEART WORM DISEASE IN SEPTEMBER, 2008.
Jake arrived at the Humane Society of the Delta in West Helena, Arkansas with a cough, fever and tested positive for Heartworm. C.A.R.E. was contacted to find Jake rescue assistance. Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue committed to Jake and C.A.R.E. arranged his transportation to Denver.
While travelling west to Colorado, Jake had layovers with other rescuers in St. Louis and Kansas City and charmed them with his sweet disposition. He traveled next to Hays, Kansas and received treatment at the Animal Health Center Hays. Three days later, Jake had an unusually severe reaction to the treatment and did not survive.
In memory of this courageous, handsome and wonderful dog, C.A.R.E. started Jake’s Fund to help more homeless pets with routine veterinary care (vaccines and sterilization), medical conditions and injuries.
There will always be animals that need financial assistance for veterinary care that will help get them ready for adoption. Jake’s Fund helps take the financial strain off the shelters and rescue groups by contributing to the necessary medical. Currently, we are helping between 60 - 75 animals a month with donations. Thank you for your generosity to continue this program.
