BELIZE SPAY & NEUTER FUNDING

The Stann Creek Humane Society in Belize spayed/neutered 62 animals from Oct 21-26, 2022, with the assistance of C.A.R.E. and Dr. Jessica Braun from Hays, Kansas.  Belize is a nation on the eastern coast of Central America with a severe pet-overpopulation problem.

C.A.R.E.’s donation assisted with the costs of medical supplies for surgeries, helping the Stann Creek Humane Society continue efforts to reduce the number of free-roaming dogs and cats in the native Mayan villages.  All animals were given an exam, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and tattooed as well as a few other medical procedures that were needed to ensure the animal’s health.  Supplies donated by C.A.R.E. will be used by the medical director of the Stann Creek Humane Society to continue this mission.

For 14 years, the Humane Society was known as Hopkins Belize Humane Society because the clinic was located in Hopkins, even though they served the entire region of Stann Creek.  They have been fortunate enough to have a piece of land donated to them, so they now will move the clinic to another village called Hope Creek. It was decided to rebrand the name to Stann Creek Humane Society since it better represents the area they serve.  As of now, the building has been moved and they are in the process of hooking up all the utilities, etc.

If you are interested in donating directly to benefit the animals in Belize, they are under a non-profit umbrella in the US called the Belize Economic and Ecological Development Fund (BEED Fund) and their donors usually donate via PayPal at info@beedfund.org.

C.A.R.E. is looking forward to helping fund at least one more Belize sterilization clinic in 2023.
